President Donald Trump has renewed his call to eliminate a rule that prohibits tax-exempt nonprofits, particularly churches, from making political endorsements. During remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast this morning, Trump invoked the words of Thomas Jefferson before saying he will “get rid of, and totally destroy, the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution.”
